- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Couldn’t stop listening, I loved this collection so much and I usually am not a short story person
I’ll be checking out most of these authors other work. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5
Freaking spooky is what I'm gonna say right now, especially "Madeeda"! This ain't no lightweight "Sookie" novel!
Wow, very incredible! All have a touch or more of the paranormal. We meet: two vampires, Circe, a ghost keeper, magican, Hecate, a Banshee, a little girl who can make bad people disappear, a ghost, a seer of death, and more.
Each story is different:
Dahlia Underground, Vampires get revenge & save their rescuers from Vampire killers
Hixon, Circe lives
The Trespassers, Saving an old haunted house from being turned into a B&B
House of Horrors, The bully boy disappears
The Bedroom Door, Grandmother has the gift/curse of seeing people who will die in 3 days in the door way of her bedroom
The Awareness, A banshee investigates the death of one her "family" members
These are just a few of the offerings. I really enjoyed this book. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is a collection of paranormal short stories. As with any collection some were good and some not so much. An okay read for fans of the genre or the specific authors. Can’t rave about it!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not a bad collection, but not the best one I've read. I liked about half the stories, found most of the rest just 'ok' and completely disliked one. Still, there are a few here that I'll probably re-read again in the future when I'm looking for a quick Supernatural fix.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was the best short story I've seen from Charlaine Harris, and the most interesting writing I've read of hers in a while. Although it dealt with a new character, it was tight, compelling, and she didn't rely on established characters to tell a story. Nicely done.
Out of the other stories, some were better than others. I didn't skip any completely, but did skim through a couple.
A quick note on the format I read this in--never again will I read a collection of short stories by various authors on my Sony eReader. I've discovered that I really like to browse around, flip back and forth, and skip stories I'm not enjoying. For some reason this just wasn't happening in a useful way as an ebook. I'm also having trouble remembering the stories themselves--which authors did I want to find more from? No idea. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I should have written the review as soon as I finished the book. All I remember now is that this anthology tended to be much, much darker than most of the ones I read! I'd classify this volume as horror rather than dark fantasy, and paranormal romance fans should probably just skip it altogether even if they do see familiar authors' names. I should have skipped it, and I wasn't reading for any romance. I'm still shivering!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Short stories of crime and the paranormal from 20 authors who belong to Mystery Writers of America...There was enough variety throughout the collection for everyone to find something to like. Jeff Cummings and Natalie Ross did an excellent job with the narration. I would have thought there was a cast of readers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book of short stories is one of the best groupings of stories by various authors I've read. Crime writers taking a paranormal approach, I really enjoyed every single entry. I felt Ms. Harris had the weakest entry of the bunch; and I got to read things from people I might not have normally given a second glance to. This book really kept my interest and pulled me along. Very good.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some very good stories collected in this anthology. Unfortunately for all the Charlaine Harris fans, hers wasn't one of them. Lou Kemp, Max Allan Collins with Mickey Spillane, Barbara D'Amato were all amazingly good.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A book of short stories concerning crime and the supernatural. Among the authors are Charlaine Harris, Max Allen Collins, Barbara D'Amato, and Margaret Maron. There was enough spread in topic to find a story that pleases.I recommend this book.
