About this audiobook

The epic horrors of psychopathic mastermind Eddie Lee Sexton from the New York Times bestselling author who "knows how to dramatize true crime" (Elmore Leonard).

For years, Eddie Lee Sexton ruled his large family like Charles Manson. The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities.

As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida. Ultimately, Sexton's efforts to escape prosecution led to two grisly murders in his own family. Yet Sexton's sick genius almost helped him elude the justice he deserved. Lowell Cauffiel's true-crime masterpiece vividly exposes the horrors of Eddie Lee Sexton's psychosis and the shattered lives of those who survived.

Lowell Cauffiel

LOWELL CAUFFIEL is the best-selling author of nine books and an award-winning veteran investigative reporter. His research has taken him everywhere from the President's private living quarters in the White House to the dangerous confines of urban dope dens. Cauffiel's three crime novels have explored diverse characters and settings that range from a Detroit shakedown crew in Marker to the glitzy, corrupt underworld of the National Football League in Toss, which he co- authored with former Superbowl quarterback Boomer Esiason. His five nonfiction crime books have covered a monstrous, homicidal patriarch in the New York Times best-selling House of Secrets; a pair of female serial killers in Forever and Five Days, and a calculating criminal justice instructor who tried to design the perfect crime with the murder of his TV anchorwoman wife in Eye of the Beholder. Cauffiel's first true crime book, Masquerade, the story of a Grosse Pointe psychologist's deadly double life, was a national best seller. He has appeared in a dozen documentaries about his books, MSNBC, Court TV and A&E. Cauffiel has written and produced documentaries for the Discovery Channel and CNBC and has adapted his first book Masquerade to film. He now lives in Los Angeles, where he writes feature films and creates shows for television.

I couldn't listen to this -- the narrator is so monotone it was actually putting me to sleep. Not ideal for a true crime book.

Mr Lowell Cauffiel has gone above and beyond creating the absolutely best researched and structured and satisfyingly written book about a crime and criminal of such over-the-top behavior that I was caught in a whirlwind of words, trapped until it was complete, released and collapsed, I urged everyone I knew to grab a copy and listen so I wasn't alone, needing friends to commiserate, sharing this stunning work together we were able to make some feeble sense of actions beyond understanding of outrageous and damaging human behavior in our society we all share for growth, knowledge, wisdom, understanding and survival.
