Federal Investigator Aaron Falk is on his way to a small town deep in Southern Australian wine country for the christening of an old friend's baby. But mystery follows him, even on vacation.

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of Kim Gillespie's disappearance. One year ago, at a busy town festival on a warm spring night, Kim safely tucked her sleeping baby into her stroller, then vanished into the crowd. No one has seen her since. When Kim's older daughter makes a plea for anyone with information about her missing mom to come forward, Falk and his old buddy Raco can't leave the case alone.

As Falk soaks up life in the lush valley, he is welcomed into the tight-knit circle of Kim’s friends and loved ones. But the group may be more fractured than it seems. Between Falk’s closest friend, the missing mother, and a woman he’s drawn to, dark questions linger as long-ago truths begin to emerge. What would make a mother abandon her child? What happened to Kim Gillespie?

A really enjoyable story. It's part mystery and part family and friends dynamics. I enjoyed all the characters, especially the main character as he was just a really nice man. Not only was he nice but he wanted to do the right thing even if it was not easy. I never guessed any of the final reveals and I always like to be surprised. I also did not know this was a third book in a series which means this obviously can be read as a stand alone novel. Kudos Ms. Harper, I will have to check out the other books and hopefully we can hear more of Aaron's story.

The characters are exactly as I imagine Australians to be. Smart, warm, family and community driven, a bit stoic. Jane Harper always delivers

I wondered if Harper would keep me guessing. She did, for the most part. I enjoyed reading the interactions with Aaron and the Raco family. They felt like found family, and I love that. I enjoy the way Harper melds more than one mystery into her books. Even if I have a suspect in mind or two... I always wonder at the puzzle of the why & how.
