Marcia Willett

Born in Somerset, in the west country of England, on the day the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Marcia Willett was the youngest of five girls. Her family was unconventional and musical, but Marcia chose to train as a ballet dancer. Unfortunately her body did not develop with the classical proportions demanded by the Royal Ballet, so she studied to be a ballet teacher. Her first husband was a naval officer in the submarine service, with whom she had a son, Charles, now married and training to be a clergyman. Her second husband, Rodney, himself a writer and broadcaster, encouraged Marcia to write novels. She has published several novels in England; A Week in Winter is the first to be published in the United States.

At the beginning not quite sure about this book, I soon got very fond of all characters. Enjoyable read.

Das Haus in Cornwall, das malerische Cottage Moorgate, wird Schauplatz für eine Familiensaga. Im Mittelpunkt steht Maudie, eine ältere Dame, die Moorgate von ihrem verstorbenen Mann geerbt hat und es verkaufen möchte. Selina, die Tochter des Mannes aus erster Ehe, kann sich damit nur schwer abfinden. Zwischen ihr und Maudie herrscht schon immer Zwietracht. Doch Posy, die Enkelin, hat ein gutes Verhältnis zu Maudie.Der Verkauf wird von Rob abgewickelt, der sich selbst sofort in das Cottage verliebt hat. Er lernt die todkranke Melissa kennen und verbringt mit ihr schöne Tage in Moorgate, ohne zu wissen, dass sie nicht mehr lange zu leben hat.An den verwinkelten Handlungsfäden (und das sind noch nicht alle) erkennt man schon, dass es sich hier um einen typischen englischen Wohlfühlroman ala Rosamunde Pilcher handelt. Das Buch ist völlig in Ordnung, wenn man sich nicht mehr verspricht.

I liked the story, but it also put me in the mind of P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. The book was one I could put down every once in awhile, but I was still interested in what was happening. I did enjoy the characters.

I love her books! Eventually I will have read all of them. Her writing style is just completely appealing to me---her descriptions, her characters. She writes with warmth and depth and with always interesting interrelationships with her overlapping story lines.

Sweet story of how a particular house on the edge of moors touches the lives of the people who own it and want to own it. Wonderful characterization of a the members of a disfunctional family

I loved this book!!!!! This book reminded me somewhat of Rosamund Pilcher's "Winter Solstice" but not quite as good. Marcia Willett weaves a wonderful tale of family strengths, weaknesses, falling in love with a few mysteries thrown in. I highly recommend this book, it was well worth the read.
