About this audiobook

Striving for the top is the path of the strongest. If you are not moving upward, sooner or later you will tumble back to the bottom.

Elb has long understood that life in a cage, and among the scum, is not for him. He cares not for his new, higher position in stinky Drainagetown. The hero wants to find a way out of the steel labyrinth.

But even if he makes it, what awaits him on the other side of the steel walls?

Elb and his squad of goblins are about to receive the answer not only to this, but also to other questions.

The squad has been through much together, and maintained its unity, but will it always be this way?

For not everyone is prepared to go to any length to achieve the desired goal, especially if it is the goal of the goblin Elb, who will stop at nothing, and is prepared for any sacrifice.

"Nullform #5" by Dem Mikhailov marks the latest installment in the series, but unfortunately, it fails to deliver the expected progression and falls short of fulfilling its potential. This fifth entry leaves readers with a sense of disappointment due to its lackluster plot development and missed opportunities for character growth.

The narrative in "Nullform #5" continues the story established in the previous installments, but it struggles to build upon the foundation set by its predecessors. The plot feels stagnant, with minimal advancement and a lack of significant revelations. Instead, the narrative seems to be stuck in a loop, revisiting familiar conflicts without introducing fresh elements or providing satisfying resolutions.

Character development also suffers in this installment. The protagonists fail to undergo meaningful growth or overcome substantial challenges, which hampers their ability to connect with readers on a deeper level. Their actions and motivations often feel repetitive and predictable, diminishing the potential for emotional investment.

When compared to its contemporaries in the genre, such as "Neuromancer" by William Gibson or "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson, "Nullform #5" falls short in terms of pushing the boundaries of the cyberpunk genre and delivering a compelling and immersive narrative. The world-building lacks depth, and the exploration of complex themes related to technology, society, and human nature feels superficial and underdeveloped.

Mikhailov's writing style remains competent, but the prose lacks the captivating flair needed to elevate the story. The dialogue feels stilted at times, lacking the natural flow and authenticity that would help bring the characters to life. The pacing of the narrative is also uneven, with certain sections dragging on while others feel rushed, further contributing to the overall sense of dissatisfaction.

In conclusion, "Nullform #5" by Dem Mikhailov disappoints with its lack of progress, missed opportunities, and underdeveloped characters. While the series may have initially shown promise, this installment fails to deliver on the expectations set by its predecessors. With its stagnant plot and shallow character development, it falls short of its potential and leaves readers longing for more substance and depth.
