Jerome K. Jerome

Jerome K. Jerome (1859–1927) was an English writer who grew up in a poverty-stricken family. After multiple bad investments and the untimely deaths of both parents, the clan struggled to make ends meet. The young Jerome was forced to drop out of school and work to support himself. During his downtime, he enjoyed the theatre and joined a local repertory troupe. He branched out and began writing essays, satires and many short stories. One of his earliest successes was Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (1886) but his most famous work is Three Men in a Boat (1889).

Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes by Eric Litwin is a poetry book I enjoyed. I liked this book mainly for its illustrations. I loved how every character in the book is drawn as a cat, even though they’re behaving as humans. I also liked how the end pages were the same and were both pictures of the “Cat City School Bus.” I think my favorite thing about the illustrations were the main character in his big red shoes. Another reason I enjoyed this poetry book is it change to the repetitive part. This part changed with the scenery and kept you engaged. When he was in the lunch room he was “eating in his school shoes” and when he was on the playground he was “playing in his school shoes” and so on. The main idea for this book is amusement. This is a colorful book meant to be fun and enjoyable.

Pete the Cat proves that whatever his footwear, he's one cool customer in this second picture-book devoted to his adventures, following upon the initial Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. This time our intrepid feline is wearing his red school shoes, shoes that take him through any number of activities throughout the day. Pete just sings his favorite song as he goes along, because: "It's all good."Like its predecessor, Pete the Cat: Rocking In My School Shoes pairs an entertaining sing-song narrative, one that lends itself to being read aloud, with colorful cartoon-style artwork that adds to the sense of fun. Author Eric Litwin, who is also a song-writer, created the Pete the Cat song, which readers can listen to on the HarperCollins website. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the first book about Pete the Cat, or to anyone looking for children's stories just made for reading aloud.

We love Pete the Cat! The message in these books featuring the groovy feline are uplifting, and the text is delivered with a song-like rhythm that makes for a perfect read aloud story. In this, the newest Pete the Cat adventure, Pete journeys to school in his rocking red school shoes. Pete is faced with many new situations, such as loud lunch rooms and busy play grounds, but does he worry? Goodness no! He keeps calm by singing a song about rocking in his school shoes. The repetitive sentences and story structure pair with the the use of song and bold illustrations to create a new ballad kids love to read. The story encourages children to be calm and approach new situations with confidence. The funky illustration's capture Pete's style. We just bought this book recently, and it has already become a staple of our night time reading. Pete the Cat strikes again (in a good way!).

The book by itself is cute, but when you add in the downloadable song and vide (both links available through Harper Collins' website), it ROCKS. Kindergartners and other young children will love meeting Pete and singing along.

I was worried I would not like the sequel as much, but the school material is great and Pete's personality shines through.

Pete the Cat is back and he is singing all over the school. Brilliant lyrics, brilliant melodies. Right? Here’s a sample:“I’m reading in my school shoes,I’m reading in my school shoes,I’m reading in my school shoes.”Pete the Cat is singing all over the school, with his enormous yellow eyes, eyes that stare at you with cat disdain. There are no exclamation points in Pete’s songs.

I just have to say that I love Pete the Cat books. They are so cool! The beats and rhymes are infectious. One cannot read these stories without sounding like a cool jazz loving beatnik. The overall message in this story is school is cool and so are you!

Pete the Cat is an amazing book that draws kids in to help relate to their first day of school jitters. The story is all about this cat named pete who is going through school for the first time and he is learning all of these new things but he gets a little nervous about them, but instead of getting upset he just sings his song about rocking in his school shoes. This story helps relate to children who get the jitters about their first day of school. Pete the cat is fun and interactive for both the teacher and the students within the classroom. This book has been successful in many classrooms in diverse setting because every student can relate about getting nervous of learning new things and meeting new friends.
