About this audiobook

It was a story that shook the world. In the autumn of 1955 five young men had dared to make contact with a Stone Age tribe deep in the jungles of Ecuador. The goal: to establish communication with a people whose only previous response to the outside world had been to attack all strangers. // The men's mission combined modern technology with innate ingenuity, sparked by a passionate determination to get the gospel to a people without Christ. // After several preliminary overtures of friendship, the men set out on a crucial January day in 1956 for a meeting with the Waorani tribesman, who had reacted with apparent tolerance to earlier gifts and messages. // The story of Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot was recorded several months later by Jim's wife, Elisabeth. Through Gates of Splendor has since become a classic, one that has inspired hundreds of thousands of people.

In 1955, 5 young missionaries who were working with other tribes in Ecuador decided to try to reach out to the Auca, a tribe with a deadly reputation. They gradually earned their trust by dropping gifts and pictures by plane. Their first contact with 3 Aucas seemed friendly, but later, all the missionaries were found dead. Some of the wives continued the ministry, and eventually some of the Auca became Christians.

My favorite leisurely read. If you want to read a book where you are captivated and you can't put it down, read "Through Gates of Splendor"! This book brought me to tears as I read about the price 5 men paid in order to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a group of savage Indians.....their lives!!!

A moving account of five men with a passion to bring the Gospel to a primitive, unreached tribe in Ecuador and were speared to death as they attempted to make contact. The story is told by Elisabeth Eliot, widow of one of the men who with her little girl went herself a few years later into the jungle to live with this same tribe, the Aucas, now called the Waorani. Elisabeth Eliot in later years went on to write many books and become a well known speaker.
