About this audiobook
An Introduction to Carnism
Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows offers an absorbing look at what social psychologist Melanie Joy calls carnism, the belief system that conditions us to eat certain animals when we would never dream of eating others. Carnism causes extensive animal suffering and global injustice, and it drives us to act against our own interests and the interests of others without fully realizing what we are doing. Becoming aware of what carnism is and how it functions is vital to personal empowerment and social transformation, as it enables us to make our food choices more freely-because without awareness, there is no free choice.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Many of the arguments in this book seem to hinge on assumptions that simply aren't true, or opinions that the author accepts as facts, but neglects to convince the audience of.
I came into this book agreeing with many of the conclusions, but the reasoning the author uses to get to them is often shaky at best.
Those, combined with the frequently condescending tone, would cause me to be very surprised indeed if this book has actually ever changed anyone's mind on the subject matter. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It’s missing actual data and all the middle ground. Why does it have to be one way or the other. It’s possible to have animals without being cruel. Cruelty to animals must stop but that doesn’t mean not benefiting from their presence. They are a large part in regenerative agriculture and this was not acknowledged.
