About this audiobook
Ten years ago, Thomas Paxton was sent by Revolutionary France to infiltrate the British Intelligence Service. Now his sense of honor brings him back to London to confess. But instead of facing the gallows, he is given one last impossible assignment to prove his loyalty.
Lovely, lying former French spy Camille Leyland is dragged from obscurity by threats and blackmail. Dusting off her spy skills, she sets out to track down a ruthless French fanatic and rescue the innocent victim he's holding, only to find an old colleague already on the case-Pax. Old friendship turns to new love, and as Pax and Camille's dark secrets loom up from the past, Pax is left with a choice-go rogue from the Service or lose Camille forever.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked these two lead characters. They had an interesting history between them, and were both highly skilled. I liked the little ways they looked after one another, and the sacrifices they were willing to make as well. Family was a major theme, big ones, bad ones, those we choose, all kinds. It was a nice influence for two people who grew up as they did. I felt happy for them.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really, look no further if regency spy romance is your thing (and even if it's not), this series might just be the best at doing it. Would have liked a few more romantic scenes between Pax and Cami but the story and interweaving of story arcs and characters from previous books in the series was amazing. I also find myself needing to go re-read The Black Hawk to spend more time with Hawker :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Joanna Bourne is one of the very best writers of historical romance out there today. Maybe *the* best. My only problem with her is she doesn't write fast enough -- and I have to believe that's a reason her books are so good. Funny in a sly way, they offer all the best rewards of a romance novel. I didn't even think I was going to be into this one -- Pax never engaged me much as a character -- but I found myself as into this as any in her excellent spymaster series. I love the way, too, that she feels perfectly free to dance all along the timeline of her characters (why not, if you're writing books set in the past?). So this book's action takes place at the same time as the first, the Spymaster's Lady, even though we've since gone back into the past with Doyle and the Forbidden Rose and the future with Adrian and The Black Hawk. Great series. Is it over? I hope not ...
