Once there were two sisters who did everything together. But only one of them disappeared.
New York Times–bestselling author Jacqueline West’s Long Lost is an atmospheric, eerie mystery brimming with suspense. Fans of Katherine Arden’s Small Spaces and Victoria Schwab’s City of Ghosts series will lose themselves in this mesmerizing and century-spanning tale.
Eleven-year-old Fiona has just read a book that doesn’t exist.
When Fiona’s family moves to a new town to be closer to her older sister’s figure skating club—and far from Fiona’s close-knit group of friends—nobody seems to notice Fiona’s unhappiness. Alone and out of place, Fiona ventures to the town’s library, a rambling mansion donated by a long-dead heiress. And there she finds a gripping mystery novel about a small town, family secrets, and a tragic disappearance.
Soon Fiona begins to notice strange similarities that blur the lines between the novel and her new town. With a little help from a few odd Lost Lake locals, Fiona uncovers the book’s strange history. Lost Lake is a town of restless spirits, and Fiona will learn that both help and danger come from unexpected places—maybe even from the sister she thinks doesn’t care about her anymore.
New York Times–bestselling and acclaimed author Jacqueline West weaves a heart-pounding, intense, and imaginative mystery that builds anticipation on every page, while centering on the strong and often tumultuous bond between sisters. Laced with suspense, Long Lost will fascinate readers of Trenton Lee Stewart’s The Secret Keepers and fans of ghost stories.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When their family moves to be closer to Arden's skating rink, her sister Fiona is miserable. Fiona takes refuge in the library. There she finds a book and becomes involved in a local mystery. It a story of ghosts and the relationship between sisters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This could have been written 100 years ago or now—- aside from mentioning cellphones this will stand the test of time! Great spooky story about what REALLY matters, jealousy and family dynamics, what guilt can do to a person, and redemption. Narration is excellent - really told the story as if she were the girls.
Wish there were more from the author here!! This is one of those books that I think can be read over and over again. I would buy physical copy:) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is truly more than just a middle grade book, it works on family dynamics and how someone can feel overlooked by a siblings that seems to be the main focus of attention in your family.
The story itsef is excellent very fast passed, I finished this in 5 hours, and spooky enough, I would recommend reading it in the fall if you're a seasonal reader! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Fiona and family leave family and friends behind to move to a new town much closer to big sister Arden's skating practices. Fiona finds herself resenting her big sister and feels she doesn't matter in her family. The only place she finds solace is at the town library in a beautiful old mansion. A strange old mystery book captivates her, not only because of the story of a girl who disappears, but because it moves from place to place on its own. Fiona meets a local boy, Charlie, and together they try to piece together the story which has taken place in this town. The 2 sisters in the story put her in mind of Arden and herself. As she struggles to solve the mystery in the story, she can't help shake the creepy feeling that their lives are intertwined and something supernatural is involved. Grades 4-7.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a really intriguing mystery/ghost story, all about relationships between sisters. Anyone with siblings can probably identify with something in this tale of multiple sets of siblings' rivalry—and love.
