About this audiobook

Much more than a sports memoir, in Inseparable Shaquem and Shaquill Griffin share the previously untold details of the powerful and inspiring story behind the modern NFL’s first one-handed player, and his twin brother’s unrelenting devotion, sacrifice, and love. It’s the story of Shaquem’s understanding of God’s purpose for his life—to inspire others to stop being afraid and to stop making excuses—and his family’s unwavering support in spite of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The Griffins’ unlikely underdog story has already captured the imagination of millions of football fans and physically challenged people around the world.

It was a smart choice to use a pair of narrators, James Shippy and Marc Samuel, for this joint memoir by twin brothers. Shaquem and Shaquill Griffin played youth sports together and vowed to do the same with college football. Now they both play for the Seattle Seahawks. The two narrators create individual identities for the brothers while keeping their dialogue straight for the listener. Both narrators do a fine job, especially with enunciating clearly. The story focuses often on Shaquem, who is an amputee; he is without his left hand because he was born with amniotic band syndrome. Shippy and Samuel provide energetic and gregarious portrayals of two young men who don't let anything get in the way of their achievements. Review by Audiofile Magazine.

Shaquem Griffin

Identical twins Shaquem and Shaquill Griffin were born on July 20th, 1995 to parents Terry and Tangie Griffin in St. Petersburg, Florida. Shaquem was born with a prenatal condition that led to him having his hand amputated at the age of 4. Since that time, with his brother always at his side, he has been proving to people that one hand doesn’t make him less of an athlete or person. Growing up, both boys excelled in football and track, and the twins went on to play together at The University of Central Florida. In 2017, Shaquill was drafted to the Seattle Seahawks as a third round pick, where he was joined by Shaquem in the fifth round of the draft in 2018. Shaquem is the first modern one-handed player in the NFL and was awarded the NFL Game Changer Award in early 2019.

This is a well written account of two inspiring young men, their football dreams and careers, and the family that supports them. Shaquem Griffin does not let a limb difference stand in his way, and the positive attitude both brothers have is impressive. I have an even greater respect now for Coach Frost, although like many a UCF Knight, I’m still sad he went to Nebraska after such a brief time as UCF’s head coach. The brothers had great respect and love for him, too. If you didn’t like George O’Leary before reading this, you’ll like him even less. Not surprisingly, this book is heavy on football stats and scores, so if you aren’t a football fan, you may find segments of the book a bit of a slog. As a football fan and a Knight, I enjoyed this book immensely and for as long as the Griffin brothers play for Seattle, I will be a Seahawks fan. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these “Inseparable” brothers. I know it’s going to be amazing.
