Such a great book! I read this originally back in 2013 and God did amazing things then. However, this is a book that deserves to be revisited time and time again. God will reveal new and more amazing things with every read. This book could not have come in a better season where I needed to stand in faith. I started praying 3 weeks ago for a 4 bedroom house with a finished basement. Our lease was going to be up in May, so I was just praying for the house in advance. Two weeks into that prayer circle, I got an email from my landlord stating that the lease was actually up in March and that he was going to put it on the market at that point. So suddenly those prayer circles I was praying became so much more real. However, instead of the panic that set in, God reminded me of the prayer circle I had drawn (it's literally drawn on a piece of paper and taped to our wall next to my computer) and how He was just answering my prayer early. This afternoon, we will be able to go pick out a house. Guess which one is my favorite? A 4 bedroom house with a finished basement! Thank you, Mark, for writing a timeless book!

I was very excited to read this book when a friend recommended it when i told her i was focusing on improving my prayer life. After multiple attempts to read this book over the last few days, I couldn't quite get into it.... and I didn't know why.

So I started researching and discovered that though it mentions God and scripture and is even written by a Pastor, it incorporates practices that are against my Christian faith.... and some would say its down right occultic and/or new age. The author and publishers may or may not be aware. I'm not here to determine their hearts or motives. I just know my own discernment meter wouldn't let me get into this book and thought I'd share... just in case some others had similar experiences.... you're not alone.

This is definitely NOT a Christian book. Just a mystical book. I am sorry towards the author, but to anyone who wants to read this book, you should watch first a video on YouTube by James&Lea D - Philia Ministries called The Circle Maker: Witchcraft in the Church. All of this is related to New Age stuff, and we should all stay away from it, since it is not coming from God.

This book was okay. It helped remind me how important it is to pray for people in my life, and to keep praying and believing no matter how long it takes. The book was very repetitive though. I'm also a little uncomfortable with the whole circle thing. I'm not real sure how Biblical that actually is. Some of the book seemed to skirt awfully close to the name it and claim it prosperity stuff that I steer clear of. I think it would help to actually know the man to really be able to see what kind of man he is and the fruit he produces.

Bear in mind that the basic premise of this book is a supposed historical event (you can never argue with experiences). Problematically, history can never tell you what ought to be; history can only tell you what happened. Yet, author Mark Batterson bases his entire argument on what happened (experience) a generation before Jesus came, not what the Bible says ought to be (principle). Unfortunately, there is no Scripture Index--which is always telling in a book that is purportedly "Christian"--and I could find no reference to Matthew 6, which is a primary text of Jesus' teaching on prayer.

"The earth has circled the sun more than two thousand times since the day Honi drew his circle in the sand, but God is still looking for circle makers" (page 13). How he knows this is God's current activity Batterson does not say.

The author asserts that the failure to pray dream fulfilling and miraculous prayers is due to our not coming to terms with the truth that God is for us. However, the Apostle Paul assets (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit), that the conviction that God is for us is grounded in the atoning work of Christ, and he makes no mention of prayer in the context. Therefore, Batterson is, at best, guilty of synthetically interpreting (eisegesis - get a dictionary) Scripture.
Because God tells us to "redeem the time", I cannot suggest you read this book.
However, if you want to read a book that makes unfounded assertions, misrepresents God and and his Word, and lacks cogent argumentation, I highly recommend you read this volume. Otherwise, use it, page by page, for starting fires on cold winter mornings.

If you want to read a good book on prayer, find one that starts out citing Scripture and does so the entire way.

If a group is wanting to study prayer Mark's book is a great place to start. The Circle Maker allowed us to look at prayer through a lens I had not looked through before and even a few years after reading it for the first time I still incorporate principles from the book into my prayer life.

Good men's group bible discussion book, but I wouldn't put it near the top of inspirational books I've read. I did enjoy the author's stance on the importance of prayer and how we as Christians should be diligent about it, but....and you knew there was a but...some of his comments on parts of the Bible and "what God wants" seemed a little off kilter to me. It is thought provoking, though.
