About this audiobook

A Grammy-winning lyricist and accomplished poet, Joe Henry turns his immense talent to the novel form in this moving debut. Spencer Davis and his wife Elizabeth have carved out a rewarding existence on the fierce plains of Wyoming, where they raise three sons alongside herds of cattle. But as their oldest son Luke comes of age and begins testing the boundaries of his independence, Spencer fears that their simple way of life may not be enough for Luke. I've always enjoyed lyric writing in fiction. There's a very special way that words fall on my inner ear. They create a cadence and rhythm that good wordsmiths can exploit and use to conjure deeper understandings within the very words they have chosen. [[ASIN:1400069416 Lime Creek: Fiction]] is such a work. The author, a recognized, pedigreed song writer, has written in this novella-length work, a feast for the senses and the spirit, too.Wyoming has inspired more than its share of great writing. The land lends itself to lyrical description and vibrant interconnections with those who make it their home. Lime Creek explores both of these wonderful subjects through the critical moments in a family's life, seen through the eyes of its sons. Each chapter stands as a story in its own right, creating unforgettable scenes revealing love, pain and joy on many levels. The sense of place draws the reader in and the author's expression of the interdependence and love between humans and animals is particularly touching throughout.Lime Creek may be short, but it is a complete meal, make no mistake. The poetry of its language, along with the grit of the Dust Devils and the smell of leather and horses, fill the readers mind. Considering its source, I shouldn't have expected anything less. I hope it's released in hard cover as it deserves a permanent place in my library.

A wonderful book, with such beautiful descriptions of the people and the lands of Wyoming.

I thought the first chapter was fantastic but then that run-on writing style started to grate on me and pretty soon I was skipping paragraphs and then entire pages just to get to the end because with such a wonderful first chapter you expect at some point the author will come up with a plot or at least start punctuating his never-ending sentences but sadly he doesn't. There might be a good story here, but I was too irritated to find it.

This book is a lovely story about a young man in the West (Wyoming) and his life on the range. There are lines/paragraphs in this book that are some of the best writing I have ever read. I was floored by the simplicity and beauty of Joe Henry's phrasing. One of the nice aspects of the book is that it's difficult to tell when it occurs. I had to read into some of the fine details to figure out what time period it covers, since horse-drawn hay wagons and such have been in use for so long. I wish I could write better in order to convey what a truly lovely read this is.

This is a story (short interconnected stories) about the Davis family and their lives, living on a ranch in Wyoming. It's about life experiences - many of those depicted in the harsh Wyoming winters. When one of the Davis boys can no longer remain silent about the cold conditions they live under, Spencer- his father, tells him a very poignant story of just what "cold" is really all about. Henry, draws the reader into the landscape and their stories become more significant and beautifully told.

This is a very heartwarming story revolving around a family living in the country lands of Wyoming. The story starts off with the father, Spencer, and how he comes to meet his wife and quickly get married. The majority of the book is focused on his family life, which includes his three sons but focuses mostly on two of them. Without a doubt, Luke is the son most spoken about, and he seems to have several obstacles come his way throughout the course of the book. At some times, the sentence structure made the story a bit difficult to follow, but aside from that it was a very enjoyable book.
