About this audiobook

India Bridge's house is a prison, her life a collection of redundancies. Overnight her children have turned into willful, frightening creatures, and her husband into an unsolvable enigma. When India tries to reach beyond the limitations around her, she begins to realize the scattered truths that hide themselves in fear and solitude.

The reviewer who called this book a work of perfect mimicry was spot on. I couldn’t have thought of that. That much is very true about it. And it’s a worthy document of a people and their unsustainable place and time. Along with Mr. Bridge, an inconsistent portrait emerges, but to the same point I think: people don’t often honestly live this way, monogamy being usually a religious sort of sacrifice. There were numerous unrealistic plot elements hidden in the general posturing. I hope American culture can find its way now that this former concept of ideal has been proven exclusive of most people of all races.
