- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Interesting! Really loved learning where the name four came from and his initial thoughts after joining Dauntless.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fantastic short story from Four's perspective. Great characterization with fascinating insight into his backstory. This bit of writing, in my opinion, is better written then the original trilogy.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoy the novella and the narrator
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really want to give this one a 3.5.
It wasn't bad or disappointing, so much as it just felt incredibly sparce.
I like that we got to have some insight into Four's mother, how she was and what she did. I like that we saw how Four chose, and watched him go through the same initiation with some smaller, different details. It feels rough and very much a beginning, though, so I'm hoping to see more as we go.
Especially about how Four wanted to be the best of every section and how/why he got the tattoo at which point in his life. I'm hopeful this series will continue to be truly amazing, telling a different story in the world we've come to love. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Go back to where it all begin. Before Tris transferred to Dauntless from Abnegation, there was Tobias Eaton. This short tells the story of his test, the circumstances of his choice, and his start in his new faction.
Having read this after finishing the main series, I found it to be quite poignant (as I did with all of the Four-related prequel stories). Even though they're short, there's a great deal of backstory and character motivation that comes out here. And since I left Allegiant feeling like it's as much about Tobias as it is Tris, it was nice to go back and connect where he is at the end with where he was in the beginning. Definitely recommended for fans of the series, especially those who may have struggled with the way it ended. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I did not realize that this short story was included in the book Four, the story about Tobias, which I had already read. It was short so I went ahead and listened to the book. I enjoyed again and this is still a great story. The narration is good though, for my personal tastes, I would have liked a little bit more of a dramatic performance. Still a solid four stars for the narrator.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great Fast paced read that give more explination on 4.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A quick eBook novella that fleshes our Four's character (and introduces some of the other Divergent characters). Not much more to say about it than, it accomplishes all of these things.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this one. It's a glimpse of Tobias or Four's life when he was an initiate. Awesome! Made me know Four better. My only lament is...I wish the story is longer.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Since I LOVE this series, any "short" is going to be TOO short for me, but BOY did I love this one. It's so interesting reading things from Four's point of view. This one takes us back and let's us know how it was for him to choose Dauntless. I loved seeing into his mind, seeing his 4 fears, and seeing how he became such a legend in Dauntless. It was also interesting to see Tris's dad and Four's dad meeting up. I'm so excited for the rest of the shorts, and for Allegiant!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Typically, a 30-page novella would be of a somewhat lesser quality than the full-length books in a series. Not so, in this case. Told from Four's POV, this account of the days of his testing and choosing added a lot to his character and to my understanding of where he came from (it was always hard for me to fully believe he'd started in Abnegation when all I could see was how he'd turned out by the time Triss met him). I look forward to reading the other books from Four's POV.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the first of Veronica Roth's works that I read due to accidentally putting the wrong title on my kindle and so glad it worked out that way!My nieces had told me how much they enjoy her books and I often read the books they read so we can discuss them and must say I am always happy with their choices! This story is captivating and engrossing, you just can't put it down! When I finished the mere 75 pages I immediately had to put all the others in the series on my kindle and can't wait to see how the story unfolds.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really loved this novella. It was amazing experiencing what Four went though, how he felt and what he thought. How he reinvented himself.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thought that Free Four was a little disappointing, but I love this world of Roth's so much that I bought Transfer anyway. I *loved* it. It gives great background on Four's choices and more info on his "four," and it's a fun chunk of the story to have. Totally worth the $1.99.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The transfer is a short story that gives the reader a look into how Four ended up in dauntless. There is more insight into his relationship with his father as well. It isn't necessary to the overall story just some additional information.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Snore. I mean, really?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this short story about Four's choosing day.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Transfer is Tobias' backstory, from his family life to his choosing and Dauntless initiation. You can't help but feel bad when you read about his family life. This is a good companion to the Divergent series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoy getting to read more about Four and his backstory. He is such a mystery that it is nice to finally get inside his head. You can't help but feel for him when you read this. I am so excited to read Allegiant, the final book in the series, and am happy that it will alternate between Tris and Tobias.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Holy crap! Love!
We know how Tris came to be in Dauntless, and we know what we do about Four's past, but we don't KNOW know. And in The Transfer we learn it.
We meet Tobias Eaton pre initiation ceremony, and then we go through it with him and the first day of initiation to Dauntless.
And Oh Mai Gah - we get Four. FOUR!
There was a point where I wanted to hug him and tell him it'll all be okay, because seriously - his father was an asshole-ish abusing bastard. And Tobias was all innocence and honestly and "live and let live" and all that jazz. Sighhh..... love!
Is it Allegiant time yet? I say it's past due. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5You can find this review at My Favorite Things (heffroberts.blogspot.com)The Transfer: A Divergent Story by Veronica Roth is the first in a four part short story series told from the point of view of Tobias, AKA Four. A very good point that I saw in another review on here, this is listed as a prequel to the Divergent series but it is NOT meant to be read BEFORE Books 1 or 2. I would reccommend reading this series in the order that they were published or you will be in for some spoilers AND confusion. We go back a couple of years in this book from where we first met everyone in Divergent, and we get to see what happened starting immediately after Four's aptitude test. We meet Tori again (she also administered Beatrice's aptitude test in Divergent), we see behind the scenes at the Easton home and the abuse he suffered at his father's hands, we see the choosing ceremony, his first day of initiation into Dauntless, and how he came by the name Four. When a series is as addicting as this, and as well loved, these tiny tidbit views into the world and people in it are precious. ***QUOTES***“You’re the one who has to live with your choice,” she says. “Everyone else will get over it, move on, no matter what you decide. But you never will." -Tori “Don’t worry about me handling the pain,” I say. “I’ve had a lot of practice.” - Four “My name is Four,” I say. “Call me ‘Stiff’ again and you and I will have a problem.” - Four
