Overall this is a good book, but some of the information presented is a bit too general and not geared towards reaching a specific retirement milestone.

What a great inspiration Chris Hogan is. Just like his mentor Dave Ramsey, he us clear an straight forward in his reading and teachings. I'm going through Baby Step 2 at this moment and when I'm done I will read / listen this book again. It's a great book for people who want to learn about the best way to retire.

    Some notes:

    • A budget is telling your money where it should go instead of wondering where it went.
    • Retirement isn’t an age. It is a financial number.
    • When you focus too much on what you deserve, it could alienate you from what you truly desire.
    • View debts as retirement quicksand.
    • Trying to time the market is a fools’ game. And has left a lot more people broke than rich.
    • You could lose money on an investment but you could also lose money even if it is sitting on a money jar because of inflation. You aren’t staying free from risks by staying out of investments. In fact, you are guaranteed that you’ll lose money in the long haul if you stick with money on a cookie jar.
    • Be ready before saving for your retirement funds. Debt free except for home mortgate (no credit card loan, no car loan, fully-funded emergency funds: 3-6 month worth of expenses)
    • If it is to be, it’s up to me.
    • An excuse is the skin of a lie wrapped with a reason.
    • Ignoring the possibility of something bad doesn’t keep it from happening, it keeps you from getting prepared.
    • Reasonable Mortgage: >10% down, <=15 year fixed rate, <=25% of take home pay; fully paid before retirement
    • Your greatest gift is what you leave in them not what you leave to them.

I enjoyed the part where it explains that parents do not owe their kids anything. Sometimes kids will feel entitled to what you have earned

Great read at any step of the retirement journey. Retirement is a financial number, not an age!
