About this audiobook

“Some scars are too deep to ever heal”, Leah Gabriella Allen whispered in hushed anguish.

The orphaned young woman knows all too well about scars...a thick burn spanning her left palm...a deep rigid scar adorning her right hip...a scar etched across her bottom lip.... There were countless more, exposed as well as hidden deep within. After years of foster and group home instability, Gabriella naively falls in the thorny arms of the abusive Brent Sadler. The constant bruise of cruelty is ever present in their 10 years of marriage—beatings that riddle her body and then being locked away in a closet when Brent grows weary of looking at the damage.

One last momentous beating ends with two deaths and changes Gabriella’s life forever. She stumbles away within an inch of her own life and begins a journey to an unexpected southern home which is none other than Lulu’s Café, where she tries to mend her severed spirit.

Lulu is the petite charismatic southern belle with a strong unshakable faith. She wisely takes on the challenge of helping the young woman heal her broken body as well as her shattered spirit. She enlists the support of the enchanting southern gentleman, Crowley J. Mason IV, whose ocean blue eyes seem to hypnotize Leah (as they know her) from the start. Leah is an unwanted stranger in Crowley’s quaint southern town of Rivertown, South Carolina. He holds her at arm’s length as he tries to decipher the mystery of her recent past. Before the young lawyer realizes it, he finds Leah tucked protectively in his arms. He wants nothing more than to help her heal...if she would just trust enough to let him in.

Lulu’s Café interlaces human failures and sheds light on the paths that lead out of them.

Jeremiah 17:14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved. For You are my praise.

Beautiful story about how broken pieces of a memory can be made into a good memory by the right people that God places on your path.

Emotional and sweet story. Some of the tragedies Leah deals with in the story got very close to home for me. God is so good and He also blessed me with a beautiful life after weathering a fierce storm. Loved this story.

WOW! This was powerful. Abuse to healing. I can only imagine. Make sure you have tissues. I felt like I new all the characters. I was overwhelmed with the topic, but I grateful I kept listening. I would have given this more stars if I could have.

(NARRATION COMMENTS: I own the paperback—fabulous cover—but I saw it listed as an audio book on Scribd. I decided to listen to it. The vocal artist was fantastic - especially the creepy husband’s voice. The only voice I didn’t care for was Crowley’s. He sounded like a older gentleman. She did an excellent job.)

The story is heartbreaking & moving, joyous & wonderful—all at the same time. I want to move to that town! It’s not an easy read because of the abuse component, but it is something that is real and prevalent in society, unfortunately. We can’t hide from it but we can learn and be aware. This is a reminder how important it is to be watchful and to reach out when someone needs help. Action, not apathy.

I will look for other books by this author. Her character development is really good and her style appeals to me very much. This is a book that will stick with me and always be a favourite. I only give five stars to books that really impact and resonate with me.

What a beautiful story of the power of love and a God who restores all things. Each page has me gripped. Tears regularly accompanied the story as it unfolded. As well as laughter and joy.

    A truly beautiful story

An enjoyable and oftentimes charming story! Appreciated the happy ending for a domestic violence survivor.

It was a half decent story but the narrator attempting to do a male voice was absolutely ridiculous. As far as I can say, it ruined the audio of this book.

What a joy to read this book and learn about abuse and how we can all do something to come along side a woman who is suffering in silence.
