About this audiobook

Sam Campbell's school team, the Laggan Lairds, always loses. When someone suggests that their name be the Laggan Lard Butts, Sam thinks the team should change its name. What is a Laird anyway? The basketball coach agrees, and soon the whole school is involved in an election for a new team name. Sam and his friends nominate the name Lard Butts. When the basketball team starts winning games after a warm-up cheer of "Go Lard Butts!" it seems the Lard Butt campaign might actually win the election.

Sam is finishing his last year at Laggan Middle School, where he plays on the schools losing basketball team, called the Laggan Lairds. Sam and his teammates start a campaign to change the name of the schools mascot. Sam’s teacher / coach decides to make it a class project and the whole school ends up getting involved. The book is a quick read, with plenty of humor. The content pulls a variety of readers in. The democratic process in which the election was conducted is a great way to help young readers understand this process, but in a straightforward way.
