About this audiobook

Children should not just read about history, they should live it. In The Story of Civilization author Phillip Campbell uses his historical expertise and storytelling ability together in tandem, to present history's greatest stories in a fresh and thrilling way.

Talented voice actor and audio-book producer Kevin Gallagher continues the journey through history in this riveting reading of The Story of Civilization: The Medieval World. This follows his popular readings of Volume 1: The Ancient World and The Story of the Bible series. Your children will be transported back in time through the sound effects, music, and voice acting that complements the reading of the text.

The journey continues in this second volume just after the conversion of Emperor Constantine. Children will watch the seeds of Christendom being planted in the soil of Europe, thanks to colossal figures like Sts. Benedict, Patrick, and Ambrose. The wonder of the medieval world comes alive with brilliant tales of knights, crusaders, castles, and inventions.

The strength of the content lies not only in the storybook delivery of it, but also in the way it presents history through the faithful prism of the Church. Have you always wanted your children to learn about world history from a Catholic perspective? Here, you'll have the trusted resource you've always wanted.

Did you know that:

  • Monks were the first to make use of clocks?

  • St. Patrick was once kidnapped by pirates?

  • St. Bernard of Clairvaux once excommunicated a swarm of flies?

  • The pope once lived in France instead of Rome?

  • A plague spread out across Europe and killed millions of people?

Whether looking for entertainment on a long road trip, enhancing the experience with the text, or catering to the needs of a child with a reading disability, this audio dramatization will open up a new world of adventure for kids of all ages.

Written at a very basic and introductory level. Spends way too much time on religion. For example Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar get 2-3 min (audiobook) but 5x that is devoted to the story of a christian martyr. Many other examples; probably 2/3rd of it is devoted to religion. Too many anecdotes/ individual stories (10 min dedicated to describing how a random Roman noble woman spent her summer). Some good info but much of the time is wasted as i just described and huge events are just brushed over. Rarely goes in depth to examine any topic other than religion. Disappointed.

Book covers west European’s history with close minded and romanticized pout of view. It is evident that writer is extremely bias to Catholic Church so if you want to learn about history this is not the book you want to read.
If you are of West European origin and you want to feel superior to other civilizations this is the book for you.
If on the other hand you want to understand the world and it’s history as it really is look elsewhere. And if you are already aware of real history this can help you understand some people around you.

The correct title would have been: "The history of the Catholic Church written from the point of view of a Catholic".

Overall very nice to listen and learn history, however the author focuses on catholicism as a true religion and tries to justify its mistakes in time. It made me laugh sometimes how the catholic 'saints' are presented as though they were righteous which is big fake, and prayed to Mary and saints but were not righteous by faith in Christ but by self works which is a big no no.

A great book depicting history with a Catholic perspective. Also loved how the stories of the Saints were interwoven into the timeline.

Deceptive title. Catholic Propaganda. I would have given it 4 stars if the title was honest admitting that it is a religious brainwash for kids and or a serious comedy by a Benedectic missionary position supporter. However, it not only insults the listeners' intelligence with all its false claims, its a cheap and stupid attempt to slip ancient fairy tales as historical events. Freedom of speech, I support that as well as the free market concept which I am sure will put snake oil sales creeps like this one out of business.
