Reviews for The Itch

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well done with emphasis on speaking out when you see things are wrong.
1960's time frame. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Because it is set in the 1960's this will be labeled historical but the main characters struggle to belong in a new school and help her friend who is being abused by her mother is as current as any contemporary realistic novel and the author's note tells how to contact help if you suspect child abuse. Overall a good story even though sometimes the story did not ring true - the cover should have had a picture of Gramp's Chevy Bel Air which defined Itch more than the trailer they moved into in Ohio.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Her grandpatents call Delores Itch. Her new friends try to name her Dee Dee by the of the book this teen of the 60's has reestablished herself. Becoming her true self has been a bit of a rough journey as she comes to struggles through grief over the death of her grandfather, a move from Florida to Ohio and all the necessary readjustments. Gram comes to the rescue of Itch's friend Wendy , an over achiever whose disabled "stage' mother has been abusing her. This would make a great discussion book for a book club.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When Itch's grandfather dies, she moves with her grandmother from Florida to Ohio. And when she makes a new friend, she discovers a secret she need courage to reveal. This story is set in the 60s, and the time period adds an odd feeling of emotional distance, the child abuse pictured seems almost, well, quaint. I'd give this to someone looking for a realistic story, or shows an interest in stories about moving, child abuse, or making new friends.
