About this audiobook
The highly acclaimed, provocative New York Times bestseller-a personal, eloquently-argued essay, adapted from the much-admired TEDx talk of the same name-from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, award-winning author of Americanah. Here she offers listeners a unique definition of feminism for the twenty-first century, one rooted in inclusion and awareness. Drawing extensively on her own experiences and her deep understanding of the often masked realities of sexual politics, here is one remarkable author's exploration of what it means to be a woman now-and an of-the-moment rallying cry for why we should all be feminists.
Editor's Note
Unique rallying cry…
Adiche has become the face of the contemporary feminist movement, and this slim work is a major reason why. She examines previous failures in feminism — especially a lack of inclusion and awareness — and offers compelling ideas about what the future of the movement needs to look like. Essential reading for anyone and everyone.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very beautiful. I have heard some of this before in Beyonce's self-titled album, but listening to it in full was very enlightening and touching. Loved it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Short and to the point... we should all be feminists!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Quintessential arguments, some of them are debatable. I liked the title the most.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a quick and easy way to get people to expand their thinking on feminism. I picked this up to get a broader understanding of feminism in a culture different from mine and I was not disappointed one bit ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thoroughly enjoyed Chimamanda call for feminism and the personal anecdotes she used to drive this message home. It was a breath of fresh air.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A motivation and encouragement to keep pushing against gender barriers, especially for young women coming from places where the differences and traditions that oppress women are more prevalent. I am a young, African, happy and unapologetic Feminist. Thank you Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Will listen to again and again. Very genuine and powerful.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is short and sweet and makes complete sense. The author is very observant of the many small moments in life in which women’s values and opinions are seen as less important or less worthy, and where women and men are culturally taught that women are less valuable in many situations and are thus, put into certain roles that are acceptable to others rather than just being who they are. I want to have my boys listen to this audiobook. Very important life lessons here.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5WOW Chimamanda wrote such a beautifully articulate novel here...I often wonder why these points are not common sense. I become quite heated and don't do much justice to the topic. If more people read this explanation than perhaps many more people would be Feminists. In the future I'll just recommend her novel.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5okay, ladies and gentlemen, we should all read this repeatedly!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very grounded and real look at the discussion of feminism. I highly recommend to those who identify and especially those who dislike the term feminism. Previously I would've scoffed at anyone who called me a feminist. But as I grow I'm learning to set aside the negative connotations and see the deeper core meaning, as well as how it doesn't require me to morph into this or that. Or define how I display my femininity. I greatly appreciate this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A must read for everyone. Educational and so very true
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It spoke about the challenges today and how to make a more understanding and equal world to live in.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was pretty good and well written, but none of the topics were explored in depth.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Her reading style is nice and calming. And is a very light read with important information
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Must read !!! For men and women of all ages
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Honestly it's very repetitive tbh I got it and just finished the book because it was short
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Every little girl should listen to this and take note. Every person should listen to this and learn! This is what we need to hear and teach. Uplift our girls and ourselves. The only way to break the cycle is to educate and practice.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5All the things we as women have to do to be respected. We should all be feminists amazing, harsh, in your face knowledge on the issues that gender and gender roles of society summons. We raise girls and boys differently (from views on finances, sexuality, marriage views, workforce expectations) and are doing an injustice to our future because of this.
My favorite example was about the woman who was pretending to be who she was not when it came to her love or lack thereof of housework, the expected role of a woman.
I definitely don’t fit into the traditional role of a woman and this is a sore spot for most, but I am and have been raised to always stand in my truth. Most girls don’t get this opportunity or encouragement and lets be honest, neither do growing boys.
We must do better!1 person found this helpful
