About this audiobook

"A soft breeze fluttered the white, blue, and red Russian flag in front of the U.N. mission. I remember when the Soviet hammer and sickle flew there. I kind of miss the Cold War. But I think it's back."

RADIANT ANGEL

After a showdown with the notorious Yemeni terrorist known as The Panther, John Corey has left the Anti-Terrorist Task Force and returned home to New York City, taking a job with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group. Although Corey's new assignment with the DSG-surveilling Russian diplomats working at the U.N. Mission-is thought to be "a quiet end," he is more than happy to be out from under the thumb of the FBI and free from the bureaucracy of office life.

But Corey realizes something the U.S. government doesn't: The all-too-real threat of a newly resurgent Russia.

When Vasily Petrov, a colonel in the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service posing as a diplomat with the Russian U.N. Mission, mysteriously disappears from a Russian oligarch's party in Southampton, it's up to Corey to track him down. What are the Russians up to and why? Is there a possible nuclear threat, a so-called radiant angel? Will Corey find Petrov and put a stop to whatever he has planned before it's too late? Or will Corey finally be outrun and outsmarted, with America facing the prospect of a crippling attack unlike anything it's ever seen before?

Prescient and chilling. DeMille's new novel takes us into the heart of a new Cold War with a clock-ticking plot that has Manhattan in its crosshairs.

I always look forward to a DeMille book, especially where John Cory is a character. On the positive side, this was an enjoyable book and a very easy and fast read. But, not nearly as good as its predecessors. Yes, Cory is as smart ass as ever, but not as amusing and clever as previously. The story does develop however, I felt the ending was satisfactory as best.

I'm a huge Nelson DeMille fan, and this latest John Corey book does not disappoint. I love John Corey - he is such a wiseass, always cracking jokes even in the midst of extreme danger, and he always comes up with a solution to whatever the world-shattering problem might be (in this case a suitcase nuclear device being sailed into New York Harbor in the bowels of a Saudi Arabian prince's yacht which is, however, piloted by Russians!). He always gets the job done! DeMille must have superb sources within the military, intelligence, and law enforcement communities because the details of his plots seem extremely authentic, albeit horribly frightening. Can't wait for the next book.

Fast-paced story of Russian plot to nuke New York City. This is one of DeMille's better novels. The Russians for a change, make better bad guys. Could have used a subplot or two - perhaps involving Oligarchs and the Kremlin.

John Corey is with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group as a kind of break after his harrowing experiences in Yemen. He's monitoring the activities of Col. Vasily Petrov who is with the Russian U.N. Mission. As Corey and his team of anti-terrorists follow Petrov and a group of Russians to a party thrown by a wealthy Russian in Southampton, Long Island, Petrov disappears.Corey has the feeling that there is something up and set out to find Petrov and discover what he's up to.The reader learns that Petrov is an ego maniac and his plot is to strike a major blow against New York and America. Not to reveal plot, the item he's shipping is a bomb and he uses a luxury yacht to get the bomb to New York. There is a race to save New York and as the second tick by, suspense mounts which culminates in a chilling confrontation. What was of particular interest to me is that the last book I've read was "Finders Keepers" by Stephen King. The protagonist of that book is Bill Hodges who was in action in the "Mr. Mercedes" murder. Comparing Hodges to John Corey, I found that King provided more background so the reader learned more of the antagonist's motivation and that of Hodges. Both heroes were in a life or death situation but there was more to lose in 'Radiant Angel."Stephen King and Nelson DeMille are tow of our best mystery writers. There is a bit more edge-of-seat action in "Finders Keepers" but both books are excellent stories, the books have realistic action scenes and excellent dialogue with a damsel in distress.

I am pleased to report that Nelson DeMille has pulled off an excellent book/read. After the forgettable tedious chase through Yemen in "The Panther," he seems to have recovered from diarrhea of the pen and this one is only 10+ hours--great length. This comes at the expense of some detail. For example, his wife goes AWOL and we don't know why...yet! In the plot, it seems like the terrorist is always a step ahead of John and his team (if one can consider a rugged individualist like John Corey has a team.) The story was difficult to put down and follows the tried and true DeMille formula.

Thoroughly enjoyed the next John Corey installment from Nelson DeMille - Radiant Angel. The plot is real and could happen here in the United States at any time. John Corey is no longer in the CIA but still has ties everywhere and favors to call in. Without these assets, it would be difficult to find his man. The person he is chasing is the same one who tried to kill a high political figure in the preceding novel. John wants revenge and will stop at nothing to get it. The villain is planning to blow up part of California with a suitcase sized nuclear bomb and blame it on the Saudi Muslims. John's new trainee for the diplomatic agency turns out to be a plant from Homeland Security with a lot of pull. Together, they try to save millions by stopping this terrorist before he can detonate this bomb. Smuggling is a risky business and those at the top have resources readily available...many pockets of key people are filled with dirty money from the cartel - cross them and you are dead! The players are ruthless...honor and seniority doesn't guarantee a long life, staff members are often sacrificed for the sake of the mission.Seems like the terrorist is always a step ahead of John and his team. The story was difficult to put aside and will force readers to stay up way past their bedtime to see what happens next. Highly recommended. Thank you Mr. DeMille!

Radiant Angel, Nelson DeMille's latest John Corey novel is shorter than the novels that came before it. We encounter John Corey after he's working in New York keeping watch over UN Diplomats and their staff with the intent to prevent terrorism. Corey follows the Russian contingent, which he compares to his previous assignments following Middle Eastern diplomats. His current charges are more fond of drinking and partying, but he's convinced that they're dangerous especially with the fiery rhetoric under Putin. Corey follows Petrov to the home of a Russian billionaire oil magnate to a raucous party, but he can't point to any specific thing that raises his suspicions. There's no red flags, just that Petrov has brought someone unusual with him. Corey convinces his colleague to go undercover - relying on his instincts - and they observe their quarry as the party goes on around them. There are beautiful women skinny dipping, cases of vodka consumed and quiet conversations. When Petrov and his companions take off on a boat with beautiful young women, Corey is convinced that they've something beyond partying on their agenda. Corey leverages his relationships with local police to instigate a manhunt - hoping to stop an attack on New York. Though Radiant Angel is shorter than the usual Nelson DeMille thriller, it delivers a complicated, engrossing and complete story. I was thoroughly drawn in from the start. A satisfying read!

Radiant Angel by Nelson DeMilleLove the authors other works and this is a continuation of John Corey's new career. He is paired with Tess Farraday as they tail the Russian diplomats onto Hampton Shores, NY.Love how the tells his stories and how he infiltrates them as waiters at a party in the mansion. He notes so many clues as he finds some leave on the yacht.Story also follows the Russians who are being followed. Such explicit details as they carry out their mission. Every thing has been thought about and the plan is in action.Love all the technical terms and new words and how it all goes, not planned as they wanted it to go. Among the mayhem with the threat of nuclear war blowing up NYC on sept 12, there is also marital problems that will probably continue in the next book.Like meaning of the title all the action and adventure.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

A good John Corey novel. Not a great one. Corey's one of my favorite characters, but because of the way this book is written, he's only in about half of it. The other half is spent following the Russians who are working on planting a suitcase bomb in NYC. I also thought it was somewhat redundant (and highly suspect) that we learn of their plot while in the "Russian" chapters (non-first person Corey chapters), but when focus shifts back on Corey, he's pretty much figuring it all out anyway. So you watch the plan unfold, then watch Corey's deduction of said plan unfold.Still, the final chapters are exciting. If you're a John Corey fan, you won't be disappointed. You just won't enjoy this one as much as his previous book, "The Panther," because it was awesome!

Radiant Angel is a shining success! Even if your only into a certain genre this book has a little bit of everything from humor, to action, suspense, mystery and betrayal. (Buck Harris is by far my favorite character he is an old, sly, patriot that is just who I want to see in any good novel.) Radiant angel is about:Discovering where, and what "the Hana" is and stopping a terrorist attack. It starts off in the view of a man named Vasily Petrov, who gets a coded message that tells him to start operation zero. Then comes in John Corey, who used to be an NYPD Homicide detective but was injured and joined the diplomatic surveillance group. AkA his job now is to watch A$$ holes for his country with his new partner Tessa Faraday. So now John's job is to watch a Russian Colonel named you guessed it...Petrov. But Petrov loses John and thus starts the cat and mouse game of a life time. John and his partner must catch Petrov and stop a nuclear attack before it's to late.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it is defiantly worth picking up!

Having been a fan of Nelson DeMille since the '80s, I was delighted to have the opportunity to read an advance copy of his latest book, Radiant Angel. I love authors who can be relied upon to consistently provide a great read. DeMille's books are entertaining, yet intelligent and thought-provoking. I also like that his books appeal to both men and women; so many of the books I read can't be recommended to men I know. I particularly like his witty and sarcastic main characters like John Corey in this series and John Sutter of The Gold Coast books. In Radiant Angel, the threat being investigated was very scary because one could imagine it happening in real life today. There were interesting ethical issues that came up in the book which differentiated it from more typical thrillers. I couldn't put the book down wanting to see how it would be resolved. This book seems to be a transitional book in the life of John Corey. I'm interested to see what happens in his personal life in future books. I think Radiant Angel will be a great summer read. Anyone could take it on vacation and know they will be enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

The seventh book in the John Corey series begins with Corey working for the Diplomatic Surveillance Group, after he was unofficially fired by his Anti-Terrorist Task Force superiors. It is known to be a dead end job, and is called “a quiet end” for a reason. His duties include watching Russian diplomats working at the U.N. Mission, mainly Colonel Vasily Petrov. After the Colonel mysteriously disappears from a Russian oligarch’s party in Southampton, Corey knows he's up to something.

DeMille's new novel takes readers into the heart of a re-birth of the Cold War. The threat is a Russian plan to explode a suitcase nuclear bomb, a “Radiant Angel,” in New York’s Harbor. This believable and realistic plot takes place over a twenty-four hour period. Fans will not be disappointed knowing that John will take a seemingly routine job and find genuine danger and plenty of wisecracks along the way.

All in all this was another enjoyable John Corey thriller but I didn't like it as much as some of his earlier ones. In this story we don't have his wife, Kate, alongside him to keep him under control. It was still a fast paced plot and if you've enjoyed the other books in this series I'm guessing you will enjoy this one as well. I did welcome the change from the “usual” Middle Eastern terrorists and enjoyed the reappearance of the Russian story line.

John Corey strikes again, this time in a sliver branch of diplomatic surveillance. The story takes place over a weekend when Corey looses the diplomatic to whom he is assigned. The "trainee" assigned to work with him turns out to not be who she said she is. The middle third of the book is setting the scene for the Russians before John and company arrive. I found it good, fast paced, and of course, DeMille had the usual witty repartee between Corey and his protégée.

This is the ninth book I have read by Nelson DeMille, and enjoyed it as much as the previous eight. DeMille is a master storyteller, his dialogues are always top shelf, the action is taut, as is his writing. I appreciate the fact that he doesn't insert any unnecessary passages, descriptions, dialog, or anything, for that matter, which does not serve to advance the plot in an intriguing and interesting way. There is no "fat" in a DeMille thriller! In checking to see how many of his books I have read I embarrassed myself that the number was not higher. There are quite a few I have missed over the years and now look forward to acquiring them and deciding which to read first. It may be cliché, but it is darned difficult for me to put down one of DeMille's books once I have picked it up, and generally fins myself totally immersed in the action for a day or two. DeMille is at the top of my list of favorite authors, certainly in the top five and "Radiant Angel" continues the tradition of Nelso DeMille's excellent story telling. John Corey is easy to relate to and any fan of this genre will be rewarded by having spent some time with him chasing the "Radiant Angel".

This author knows how to keep the reader on the edge of the seat throughout, even when the story is contrived and somewhat implausible. Although the story was an exciting tale with a slow build up of tension until the end, unfortunately, when it came to the end, it culminated in a less than stellar climax. The ending simply fell far short of the mark. Radiant Angel is the seventh in a series of John Cory novels. Cory, once an ant-terrorism cop, has a reputation for being a loose cannon. His marriage is a bit unsteady at the moment, His wife is still working for the department he once did, while he is now working for the Feds keeping an eye on foreign diplomats. He suspects his was a convenient transfer for the purpose of putting distance between him and his wife, Kate Mayfield, so he could not keep an eye on her. He suspects that she might be having a cozy relationship with her boss, the boss who also used to be his boss.Currently, Cory is watching Russian agents that are in the country under false pretenses. They are supposed to be involved with human rights issues, but Cory and his team believe they are behaving suspiciously. Actually, they are planning to carry out a bizarre and diabolical plot to murder Americans with a weapon of mass destruction, a plot which he and his partner become embroiled in and which places them in great danger. Cory is working with Tess Faraday, who is supposedly someone who has requested to work with him to learn under his tutelage, but in fact she, like the Russians, is far more than she seems to be, as well. When they lose track of the Russians, Cory and Tess find themselves on the adventure of their lives as they work to stop a diabolical plot to blow up Manhattan, using a suitcase nuke, on the day after 9/11. The nuke is on a ship somewhere on the ocean. Will the nuke make it to New York or will they be able to find it in time, disarm it and save the city? Cory is a cool protagonist and doesn’t let too much upset him. Tess is a brave agent who is also cool under fire. The story is told with the usual flare De Mille has for creating tension while diffusing it with underlying humor. It is a very compelling read except for the ending which is simply not very credible and made an exciting read somewhat like a fairy tale. The reader did a good job with a voice that never grew dull or boring and actually brought the story to life in a way that the print book might not have been able to do because the story was a bit thin in terms of content. The humor was sometimes crass, but coupled with the theme of possible mass destruction of a major city, it kept me interested for most of the book. For a book that will not tax your mind, but will surely entertain it, give it a try.

Now that his Yemen showdown with The Panther is behind him, John Corey has returned to New York. He’s become a contract agent working for the Diplomatic Surveillance Group where the most serious transgression is failure to keep track of your subject. But surveilling Russian diplomats hasn’t dulled his impeccable cop instincts and when Vasily Petrov and his compatriots set a complex, subversive plan into motion, Corey, with his propensity to circumvent the rules, may be the only one standing between their plot and considerable mayhem. With his acerbic wit intact, irreverent John Corey is the perfect antagonist for Petrov and his crew of assassins as he races to defeat their evil scheme and save New York City from a disaster of catastrophic proportions.Readers will be on the edge of their seats as this impossible-to-put-down thriller careens to its expected but totally satisfying conclusion.Highly recommended.
