About this audiobook

Eugenia Dovedale’s father had been High Steward to the Marquis of Buckbury, and after his unexpected death, Eugenia was forced to leave Paragon, the family’s beautiful and much-loved cottage on the estate. She and her mother now live uncomfortably with her great aunt Cloris in London, as they cannot afford to live anywhere else.

Mrs. Dovedale maintains strong hopes of her daughter finding a good husband and improving their position, so she’s thrilled when the Marquis returns from France and begins to show considerable interest in Eugenia. However, Eugenia is determined to only marry for love and passion, and she dreams of being swept off her feet.

When Mrs. Dovedale is injured in a coach accident, the Marquis invites her and Eugenia to stay at Buckbury Abbey to recover. The Marquis’ admiration for Eugenia intensifies, and her mother continues to push her towards him, but Eugenia’s heart longs for Gregor Brodosky, a Russian painter. Eugenia’s life becomes more and more distraught and confusing when Gregor arrives at Buckbury to paint her a portrait.

How Eugenia finds happiness at Paragon and realizes her dreams—after many twists and turns—is revealed in this intriguing and spellbinding story.

I gave this book three stars simply because the heroine was so annoying!
