When twin classmates are abducted from Bolton Prep, Tory and the Virals decide there's no one better equipped than them to investigate. But the gang has other problems to face. Their powers are growing wilder, and becoming harder to control. Chance Claybourne is investigating the disastrous medical experiment that twisted their DNA. The bonds that unite them are weakening, threatening the future of the pack itself.
The Virals must decipher the clues and track down a ruthless criminal before he strikes again, all while protecting their secret from prying eyes. And everyone seems to be watching.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Since I really like the whole premise behind this series, it's not surprising that I liked book four. I especially enjoyed the troubles that the teens are experiencing since it makes the plot more believable. I like that it seemed like things were unwinding or failing, and that they didn't have any answers as to why they were losing control of their powers. Don't want to spoil anything but there's a new Viral in town that is going to complicate matters significantly. Two classmates, twins, are abducted and the Virals decide to try to find them. While looking for the twins, another classmate, Tory's close friend, is also abducted, and that makes everything much more intense. Then Tory is attacked, and she's pretty sure that someone is targetting her for the third abduction. This fourth book continues to provide mystery, adventure and even a little romance. If you like the series, this one won't disappoint you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Virals are dealing with some big issues in this episode. Ben and Tory aren't speaking because Tory can't forgive him for his part in their problems in the previous book. Also, their powers are getting out of their control. Tory passes out a couple of times when hers overwhelm her.Besides that a couple of their schoolmates have been kidnapped and the Virals decide to look into it. They are following clues and getting nearer to finding the twins when Tory's new friend Ella disappears. Now the race is on to use all their powers to find her.Of course, they also have to keep their powers as secret as possible because Chance Claybourne is watching them closely. He has the research of the scientist who developed the project that turned the kids into Virals. That is the same research that the Virals are looking for to try to figure out why their powers are changing. This was another fast-paced episode in an engaging science fiction series.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Here's the thing. The two stars aren't indicative that I totally disliked the book, there are things that I did like about it, but my problem with the book sort of overode how I saw the rest of it. At some point in these books the main thrust has gone from mystery/thriller to a teenage soap opera with some mystery/thriller and fantasy/SciFi accents. It picks up a bit of time after the previous book left off. The trial of the Gamemaster with both Ben and Tori having to testify.Of course from there they get into even more trouble. They go back to Bolton and find that a couple of their classmates, the Gables, have been kidnapped. They start looking into it and that looking only intensifies when Tori's new good friend Ellie goes missing too.At the same time the Virals are still looking into the whys, hows and what's going to happen next with their Wolf DNA. Tori also wonders if she's going insane as she keeps feeling a connection while not flared. But, again, all those stories just seem to be overwhelmed by the angst of Tori, the anger and angst of Ben, not to mention the Chance and Jason drama. I thought that it just drowned out what was a sort of interesting mystery/thriller plot.I did really like the character of Ellie though, and I hope that we see her in future books or stories. It wasn't a horrible book, just not my favorite in the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Tory is still dealing with the issues that come from the virus, the issues that come with having had Whitney move in, the aftermath of the Gamemaster and Ben being involved with all that, can the team survive that betrayal? It's interesting and kept me reading but it just didn't quite engage me enough. I felt a lack of female characters as balance too and when I notice that, you know that I'm not quite engaged in the story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A lot of this book felt kind of just okay to me. Since Ella is a new character I just didn't feel as invested. That being said I found the ending interesting and it pulled up the entire book for me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Tory and her Pack " the Virals" help to find a kidnapper of her best friend and the missing twins. It turns out Det. Hawfield with the CPD is involved and tries to kill Tory to take the ransom. Hawfield doesn't get away with it. The Pack is also working to find out whats on the Karsten Thumbdrive to help understand how the got infected. While Chance Claybourne is doing the same but reopened the testing of the supervirus, getting himself exposed and is now also a viral but his eyes glow red when flaring insteadof golden amber like Tory's pack! Awesome book.... I was up burning the midnight oil reading this one!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good entry in an interesting series. If this is mostly Brendan's work, it is time to move him up to the author top line. Virals still fractured and stuttering as a team from last book's traumas. New challenges and old enemies will require them to get their act together. Will they? Worth a good read to find out.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the fourth in the YA series the Virals. Tory and the other Virals have been involved in the trial of the Gamemaster from the last book. As a result of the solving of that crime, Ben Blue has been expelled from Bolton and is attending the local school and living with his mother on the mainland. Tory is still not speaking to him as she has not forgiven him for his betrayal. When The Gamemaster has a meltdown at the trial and blurts out what he did, he takes a plea and the trial is over. This does not give the Virals a rest. Twins Lucy and Peter Gamble have been abducted and Tory feels that they need to assist the police as they appear to be bumbling around. As they are dealing with all this, they are still trying to evade Chance Claybourne who is secretly trying to replicate Karsten's experiments for the pharmacy company he owns. Tory has finally made a female friend, Ella, who gets mixed up in the kidnapping scheme later in the story. A quick fast paced read with a great ending. Will Ben and Tory start a relationship? I guess we will wait for the next book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'd like to thank the authors and publisher for the ARC I received via Netgalley. I'm a huge fan of Kathy Reichs and have enjoyed all her work thus far, including the Temperance Brennan books and the previous books in the Virals series. I'm pleased to say that I really enjoyed this fourth Tory Brennan adventure, in which she gets up to all kinds of mischief with her friends Ben, Hi and Shelton and of course her wolfdog Cooper. The Virals are still adjusting to their powers after being infected with a strain of parvovirus several months before, and in this book there are yet more adjustments to contend with. Tory is attracting some major attention from the male population, whilst the boys seem to have finally discovered the female of the species. Their teenage angst is captured perfectly alongside the main story which features the kidnap of the Virals' classmates. Tory and her pack attempt to uncover the truth behind the kidnappings, whilst staying under the police radar - no mean feat! Tory and the boys are such likeable characters and this book is so well written, each character springs to life from the pages and the reader is there alongside them at every step of the journey towards the inevitable truth. Each Virals book I finish leaves me yearning to read more, roll on book #5!
