- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5That lady is awfully stupid and I think she was peckish(hungry)
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not so sure the logic of the swallowing sequence held together.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There was an old lady who swallowed a shell! by Colandro_ Lucille Audio book: Children's book that rhymes and is so silly, it's just a perfect book to read.Like that it also features other sealife. Love wave the best because of what it makes.Love how it all gets connected with every new addition. By the end she's carrying a ton of things.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I like this book because of the illustrations and language the author used throughout the book. In my opinion this is an engaging, fun, and visual book to read because of how colorful the illustrations are and how the illustrations on each page vary. For example, every page presents a new scene that introduces new characters. Also, the illustrations truly enhance the story. On all of the pages the character sizes vary, and the illustrations contain many colorful details so the reader’s attention is captured. This allows the reader to not get tired of seeing similar scenes and similar sized characters repeated throughout the book. I enjoy the language and plot of the book. The book contains literary devices such as, repetition and rhyme. The story is easy to follow and children will be able to remember the sequence of events easier due to the book presenting these literary devises consistently on every page. For example, “There was an old lady who swallowed a shell. I don’ t know why she swallowed a shell. She didn’t tell. There was an old lady who swallowed a crab. Why did she grab that crawling crab?” I also feel that the book will fixate children because the story is humorous. For example, “There was an old lady who swallowed a wave. Swallowing a wave was such a big hassle, that she suddenly burped…and built a sand castle!” Children will find this plot comical because they enjoy imaginative humor that is far-fetched for their age.The big idea or central message of the book is to introduce young children to things they will encounter when they take a trip to the beach. If children have not had an opportunity to visit a beach they will have a new understanding of what beaches look like, and also what animals populate them after reading this book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a silly book about an old lady who swallows a shell and keeps swallowing things to try and get rid of the shell. I would use this in class because it is a silly picture book that children can laugh at. I would use this in classrooms from 2 - 6.
