The singer’s past life as a soldier and his gloriously droll X (formerly Twitter) style are traversed, the latter is perhaps reflected in the official publicity pitch for the film as “the story of an ageing British pop star, still fighting for relevance some 17 years after his star momentarily twinkled”.
