Composed in 1913, Satie’s three short (‘Tiresome pranks’) were dedicated to the pianist Marguerite Long. No 3, presented belong to the set of beginner piano pieces entitled ‘Enfantines’. The other two works within the set are called (Childish small talk) and (Picturesque child’s play). They were written ‘with the aim of preparing children for the sound patterns of modern music,’ so said the composer. : Play the notes evenly and with great determination. With regards to speed, the tempo marking of ‘Un peu vif ’ means ‘rather fast’. At the start (and towards the end), the exchange of notes between the hands should sound seamless. Follow the phrase markings and make sure to keep in strict time, using a strong – only slowing down and lowering the dynamics in the last four bars. Pedal is not required.
