Just 50 minutes out of central Auckland the suburb of Beachlands feels like a million miles away and a delightful step back in time. First established in the 1920s, then made popular in the ‘50s as a sea-side getaway, Beachlands is now a bustling community and home to TV producer Pip and stone mason husband Len, along with bouncy wee Corkie, the Yorkshire terrier. I dropped by in late autumn to experience, not for the first time, the way they love to cook and entertain.
It all starts in the garden, where Len is commander-in chief of all things vegetable. Len is as particular with the garden as he is with his masonry (he designed and oversaw the building of the four magnificent indoor and outdoor
