If you found the kitchen table we built a while back a tempting project, but shied away because of the lack of a complementary chair, your wait is over. As you see in the main photo, the chair’s construction and finish echoes the kitchen table that was built in Woodsmith 268.
The legs, stretchers, and backrest are made of 6/4 oak that’s ebonized in the same manner as the base of the table. As for the joinery, the canted back legs are joined with dowels to the short sides. In turn the sides are joined to the backrest via splined compound angles. The back rest is a study in angles and flowing surfaces. To provide stiff support for the seat, dowels are also used to join the stretchers to the legs. The same joinery applies for the more modest front legs.
It’s easy to see in the near inset photo that the results of ebonizing wood
