Barrel appeal

An appeal has been issued for information on three discarded 200lt oil barrels washed up in Chichester Harbour.

One barrel, recovered from the water, was leaking a small amount of oil. The Chichester Harbour Conservancy team contained the spill. The barrels were found in the Fishbourne Channel, close to Dell Quay.

The Chichester harbour master Jo Cox said: “This was a potentially serious incident and would have caused significant environmental damage should the oil have spilled into the protected harbour habitats.”

The incident was reported to the Environment Agency. Anyone with information about the source of.
