Water level worry
Concerns were raised over water levels on the River Ness and Loch Ness in the Highlands – the greatest volume of freshwater in the British Isles.
The loch dropped to its lowest level in 32 years in May amid dry conditions, putting it at ‘moderate’ scarcity status, along with Esk, Dumfriesshire, according to Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) figures. At the time of going to press, water scarcity risk in the Loch Maree area had been raised to ‘significant’.
