The modular concept of the drum synthesizer makes no distinction between control voltage and audio signal. You can use the bass drum as an LFO or, conversely, route the LFO as a sounding oscillator to the audio output, or use the clock as a short percussive sound to emphasize the transients. Pulsar-23 therefore not only masters classic analog sounds, but also unconventional sounds in the form of glitches, drones and clicks. Four loopers with a very unique concept, together with the built-in effects such as distortion, delay and reverb, make Pulsar-23 an experimental groovebox for sound artists.
Crocodile clips instead of plugs
What is striking at first glance are the many metal rods that protrude from the housing. They represent the patch points, of which there are no fewer than 119. Soma has chosen these pins over the usual patch sockets mainly for reasons of space and cost, but they also offer a numbercarelessly. In addition, up to four crocodile clips can easily be attached to one pin in order to route a modulation source to several destinations or to have a parameter such as the filter frequency modulated by several sources. With a classic modular system, multipliers would have to be planned for this.
