Roman Foricae
Company: Sarissa Precision
Size: 28mm (approx. 8omm L x 130mm W x 80mm H)
Era: Ancient Rome
Price: £8.00
Sarissa Precision's Streets of Rome range has several characterful buildings, but was lacking one particular and necessary buildings, until now. Was it a bakery? No, Sarissa does one of those. Public baths? Covered! How about an amphitheatre? No, they have one of those, too? It is a Foricae, or public toilet! These were introduced in the second century BC and could be found all over the Roman Empire, usually adjacent to public baths. The MDF kit has a good instruction guide with diagrams and took about ten minutes in total to construct. I confess, I did use superglue, otherwise it would have taken longer to allow sections to dry before continuing. The roof is detachable and there is internal detail of the toilets! Overall, this is a well-priced kit and an amusing, if practical, addition to the Roman building range, ideal for Gangs of Rome. Who knows? A local gang of plebs might want to convert it into The Crown and Toga pub!
Soviet tanks and trucks
Company: Anschluss Wargaming
Size: 12mm
Era: Early World War II
Price: £4.25 for the KV-2, £3.25 for the Zis 5 truck
Anschluss Wargames has recently released more 12mm wargames models, choosing ones that are otherwise hard to get or impossible to find in 12mm scale. The range has been expanded to include more vehicles and include platoon packs, typically containing four or five vehicles. Reviewed here is the KV 2 and the Zis 5 truck. The KV-2 for example comes in a platoon pack of five, which is priced at £18.50. The Soviet range has now been filled out with later war vehicles, such as the T34/85, SU 85, the IS 1 and ISU 152, plus the odd 'cool but useful' vehicle such as the Zis 5 tanker. The models themselves are well detailed and cast (or possibly printed?) in resin. No mould lines are easily visible, and the detailing is very good. These
