PHOTOGRAPHING A HUNT

THE SCENE

I prefer to visit the same areas repeatedly, as this helps me to familiarise myself with the surroundings, develop a connection with the terrain, and plan ahead.

This sequence of images were taken on an early July morning in the Maasai Mara. Initially, we found a female cheetah lying on a small mound under some bushes. We had been following her and her two cubs for a couple of days, and knew she hadn't had a successful hunt in that time. So we decided to wait some distance away.
