MOBO award-winning ragga metallers host a life-affirming celebration

SUCH IS THE buzz for the return of Californian nu metallers P.O.D. that their billing tonight feels like a double headliner. Though they’ve released a further six albums since their 2001 smash hit Satellite, all eyes and ears are on golden oldies Boom, Youth Of The Nation and Alive, which are played with all the nascent energy they had when they were first released.

However, with their first full-length in six years, looming on the near horizon, it’s not all about baggy-panted nostalgia tonight. Kicking off their set with its opening track –the explosive –P.O.D. sound confident and relaxed as they effortlessly groove through their set. There’s no mistaking Sonny Sandoval’s resonant and commanding raps, and Traa Daniels’ downtuned bass licks hit hard. It’s a stirring reminder of nu metal’s distinctive, enduring legacy.
