PUPIL SLICER

COILGUNS

BOOM, LEEDS

Tonight is an attack on the senses in every way. Switzerland’s haven’t played the UK since 2019, and they’reand ends the set crawling through the pit to enthusiastic cheers. This jaunt is first headline UK tour, fully deserved given the brilliance of their 2021 debut, and remarkable 2023 follow-up, Their set is almost wholly dedicated to the latter, as they play it in full, and every one of its tracks warrants its moment of destruction in the spotlight. As vicious grind gives way to a dreamy chorus, things don’t initially gel, and the song’s majestic volte-face is lost, but the sound gremlins are quickly ironed out. A masterclass in control, abandon, melody and relentless extremity follows, led by superstar-in-waiting Kate Davies – a delicate equilibrium that ensures the set’s more sensual moments provide almost as much weight as their batshit counterparts. Pupil Slicer are one of the UK’s most exciting rising bands, and tonight feels like the start of something beautiful.
