IT’S STRAWBERRY SEASON!

Strawberries have anti-inflammatory powers, boasting considerable amounts of vitamin C and other potent antioxidants—good news, as so many of us are on a mission to tame body-wide inflammation. Research also suggests that the humble strawberry may help reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as. In the trial, funded by the California Strawberry Commission, participants consumed 26 g of either freeze-dried strawberry powder (the equivalent of 2 cups of fresh strawberries) or a control powder each day for eight weeks, after which researchers measured various cognition markers. The strawberry group showed an increase in cognitive processing speed and antioxidant activity and a decrease in systolic blood pressure. Though the study was quite small, the results make sense—, factors that contribute to good overall health. If you can’t find fresh fruit after the season ends, frozen or freeze-dried strawberries are a convenient alternative—add them to smoothies, baked goods, oatmeal, yogurt, sauces and more.
