Film: THE IDEA OF YOU

Okay rom-commers, here’s your Thursday night fix: Robinne Lee’s beach read is adapted into a film that has 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, a feat possibly not achieved since Michael Showalter’s 2017 romcom, The Big Sick. He brings a similar realism crossed with romance to this story about 40-year-old divorcee Solène (Anne Hathaway) who begins a relationship with 24-year-old Hayes (British actor Nicholas Galitzine), which is thoroughly complicated by the fact that he is in a famous boy band. Showalter co-wrote the film with actor and writer Jennifer Westfeldt, and they tilt the film toward the ramifications for a middle-aged woman, especially in the age of social media. PRIME VIDEO

Film: LIBERAL ARTS

Make the age-gap romcom extravaganza complete with this sweet film starring pre-Scarlet Witch/MCU Elizabeth Olsen and Josh Radnor, who wrote and directed the film as well. He’s 35, she’s a 19-year-old sophomore … wait, this seems all wrong now. It got good reviews in 2012, that’s all we can say.
