SCIMITAR-HORNED ORYX DOWNLISTED FROM EXTINCT IN THE WILD TO ENDANGERED
Just recently, the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) downlisted the scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah) from Extinct in the wild to Endangered.
Thanks to the work done by the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi, the scimitar-horned oryx has been successfully reintroduced to its native habitat in the Sahara Desert of Chad in Central Africa.
Since 2016, numerous herds of scimitar-horned oryx have been translocated from reserves in Abu Dhabi to Chad’s Ouadi Achim Faunal Reserve. A recent survey has shown that the herd of free-roaming and self-sustaining oryx in the reserve now numbers
