Taking a Chance on a Capri

Larry Smith didn’t set out to buy his 1986 Mercury Capri, and while it didn’t exactly fall into his lap, things changed when he saw it.

“It’s a one-owner car bought new at Smith Ford in Norwich, New York,” Smith said. “It was a lady who owned it and it was never driven in winter. Her husband passed away, and I happened to know the husband. He had a collection of Fords and after he passed away, I bought this from his wife.”

Of course, the sale didn’t proceed as smoothly as that might make it sound, as the plan had been to buy a 1955 Ford and a 1961 Thunderbird convertible. The Capri was parked in the garage with those two cars and
