After decades of neglect, a weathered ’70 Mustang Mach 1 SCJ SportsRoof gets rescued from an Oklahoma field and is given “The Billups Total Makeover” treatment.
Back in the ’90s, Brent Bushyhead showed up at the Mid-America Ford Car Show in Tulsa, Okla., where he displayed his 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet SportsRoof on an open trailer. The red fastback caught the attention of Jason Billups, of Billups Classic Cars in Colcord, Okla., who noticed a sign attached to the Mach 1’s windshield and thought it was for sale. Once Billups approached the car for a closer look, he realized the owner had put a sign on the Mach 1 in hopes of finding leads to replacement parts for the car. Not discouraged, Billups struck up a conversation with Bushyhead and told him he might be able to help him locate many of the parts he needed. Billups also mentioned that if the Mach 1 was ever offered for sale, to let him know. The two men exchanged contact information and, over the years, Bushyhead purchased many replacement parts from Billups.
