nother band with an instantly recognisable aesthetic is Ibibio Sound Machine, who have. Finding that sweet spot between Afrobeat and electro, the Ibibio vision explodes into action from the off, beginning proceedings with a bewitching funk-driven bass riff on the title track, before fusing a traditional African mbira part with electro-infused disco on lead single “Got to Be Who U Are”. With five albums under the band’s belt, this isn’t a huge departure from what Ibibio Sound Machine has produced before, but it is a well-trodden path that fans will welcome. Their sound remains taut, fresh, global, insistently danceable—clearly, they’re still having fun with it.
