Julian Assange’s chances of avoiding being extradited to the US to be tried on charges relating to an alleged conspiracy to obtain and release national defence information have improved after a High Court ruling in London.
On Monday the Wikileaks founder was given leave to appeal against extradition on two out of three counts. He will now be able to challenge the US’s assurances relating to how a future trial would be conducted and his right to free speech.
The case relates to Wikileaks’ publication in 2010 and 2011 of hundreds of thousands of documents relating to the wars the US fought in Afghanistan. Assange, 52, did not attend the hearing
