David Chang, chef and founder of Momofuku restaurant group, has sparked backlash over the company’s attempt to own the sole rights to the term “chili crunch”. Now, small business owners have accused Momofuku of trademark bullying.
The controversy began earlier this month when the Michelin-starred chef’s food empire filed a trademark for “chili crunch” - a spicy condiment notably found across many Asian cultures - with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). While the company doesn’t own the rights to the phrase just reported.
