Living room

'This was the first room we modernised. I've collected colourful homewares and accessories for years, and wanted them to stand out in the room, so chose a black-and-white backdrop for our living space. We started by ripping up the carpets to reveal the original floorboards, which we painted black, then we repainted the brick fireplace wall in black paint too, and whitewashed the walls to create a blank canvas. We've added more colour to this room over the past year, with a new orange sofa, fake plants and artwork I made myself.'

My story

'After years of living in rented accommodation, I knew I'd decorate my first home from top-to-bottom in exciting colour combinations and eye-catching designs so that every room would energise me.
