Eat more dietary fibre

It’s well known that a high-fibre diet protects against bowel cancer.

Data from 350,000 participants in the UK Biobank study shows associations between dietary fibre and reduced risk of several other cancers too. After adjusting for sociodemographic, lifestyle factors, those consuming most fibre had a 10% lower risk of many types of cancer compared with those with the lowest intake. The greatest risk reductions were observed for cervical, oesophageal, lung, bladder, bowel and kidney cancers.
