Fast Ford

GUTS & GLORY

John Anderson has been a huge fan of fast cars for as long as he can remember. Not one to remain loyal to a solitary brand, he’s owned Japanese icons including a Mitsubishi Evo VIII and a 400bhp Subaru Impreza WRX, while he’s also had a brief Bavarian fling with a 360bhp BMW M3. Fortunately for us, he also happens to be quite partial to Blue Oval-badged machinery, and his preference has always swayed more towards the ’80s era.

“I’ve owned quite a few Fords in the past,” he tells us. “One of my favourites was an Escort van with two-tone paint and all carpeted out in the rear with subs and speakers.” With an XR2 engine installed, the lairy load-lugger proved to be quite lively to cruise around in while upsetting his neighbours with that mad sound system, so there must have been sighs of relief when it was replaced by astandard XR2 later on.
