The kitchen is the heart of the home, and that’s never truer than at Christmas time. There’s so much to prepare, from the relentless basting of the turkey and the trimming of the sprouts to the blending of the gravy and the painstaking efforts to get the roast potatoes just right. Someone needs to dig out the crackers. There’s bread sauce and cranberry jelly to attend to. You absolutely cannot forget the pigs-in-blankets. And all the while, aunties and uncles and assorted other family members are wafting in and out for top-ups of Baileys and mulled wine. It’s a warming hub for the all-pervading jollity of the festivities.
