Develop a presidential theme by repeating motifs throughout an arrangement. Stack a petite stepback cupboard atop a dresser, and drape linens on open cabinet doors. Fill shelves with books, pantry boxes, framed images and other items in varied shapes and sizes to create dimension. Accentuate a favorite treasure with color, as Priscilla does in her living room by placing a flag behind an Abraham Lincoln doll.
When Priscilla and Scott Painter purchased their Cameron, North Carolina, property in 2006, it fulfilled a lifelong dream. “I've wanted a two-story home with a wraparound porch since I was a little girl, and when I saw this home in a real estate book, I had to have it,” Priscilla reflects. Since then, the couple have steadily updated the house-new windows, siding and flooring-and Priscilla has eagerly suffused the interior with an uncomplicated charm.
Priscilla has in 2006, she fell in love with primitives. “I look for pieces from the late 1800s to early 1900s,” she explains. “I want to create the comfort of old-fashioned times.”
