Kit Corner: Painting and weathering the ‘N’ gauge Distillers Polybulk

THE TEST BUILD of The N Gauge Society’s kit for the Diagram E538 (TOPS PIA/JIA) covered grain wagons, described in the last issue of Rail Express Modeller, continues this month with painting and finishing of this tricky and delicate model. You might think we are on the home stretch with this project, but it has a couple of tricks left up its sleeve to catch out the modeller.

Progress made so far

Work covered in the last issue covered assembly of the main superstructure, which is built up from some fairly thick plastic parts, and to get the wagons running. One challenge in assembling this kit appears to be that it uses the same parts as a similar kit also in the society’s range, Kit 9a, which is probably to save tooling costs.
